So I'm sitting in the hospital taking the overnight shift with Alex, and only infomercials are on. Fuck me. I hope he goes back to sleep soon or I might have to go find that baby morphine and take a trip...

He had to have a simple surgery, but we've been there since Tuesday. He had something called pyloric stenosis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyloric_stenosis.

Basically he was projectile vomiting like a 19 year old at a frat party after EVERY BOTTLE. He was cranky all the time because he was hungry, couldn't sleep etc. In his crib one night there was a puke trail 2 feet long. If you think about it in adult terms, that would be like me puking 6.5 feet.

He had the surgery yesteday morning, and already last night he was calmer and not wiggling around. I could actually not hold him and have him not freak out. It was really nice. Before one of us had to hold him at all times, or he would freak out.  He actually slept in his crib too, only waking up every 3-4 hours like a normal month old, not this every 20 minute crap like before.

I had to be one of those stereotypical parents, but you really dont understand how stressful and frustrating having one of your children in pain is. I'm a type A personality, not being in control freaks me out.

Glad it was a simple procedure and that he seems to be recovering from it quickly!  How soon do you get to take him home?

While my postcount has floundered over the years (once upon a time, I was in running competition with Teeps and a few others for PI's biggest postwhore), I miss my sig more than I miss it.  But hell, this gives me a chance to start again!  I wonder if I'll be able to get here from the school computers, or if I'll have to use my phone for it.  *plots*  Eh, summer vacation's in like a month, I'll certainly be able to get some kind of edge there, especially if I'm just doing freelance editing.

boofu, I totally know the feeling.  Phoenix had a bad bout of gastrointeritis a couple months back, and he was also projectile vomiting like your guy was.  Just couldn't keep anything down. He got really dehydrated, lost almost 2 lbs (which is a lot when you're just shy of 18 lbs to start with).  He stayed in the hospital for a couple days with an IV in him just to keep him hydrated.  At the start of it all, he didn't even have the energy to cry any more, he just had this sad worried look on his face that just ripped your heart out.  Thankfully 36 hours of quality Canadian health care later and he was back to his smiling goofy self, even if he wanted so badly to rip the IV out of his arm.  It still took about another month before we could get him back on a normal feeding schedule with actual formula (fuck that lactose-free shit is expensive) and normal solid foods for him.

I'm glad your little dude is getting better.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that you and boom can get some actual sleep sometime in the near future.

Poor little guy!  Glad the surgery helped!!

Being a parent is the most stressful thing I've ever experienced.  It's also the most rewarding thing.  For these two things to coexist is a cosmic joke, IMO.  I was talking about giving birth to one of my coworkers yesterday and when I came home I squeezed the boy (despite his 13-year-old reaction of "MOM STOP!") and just smiled at him: Flower of my Heart, Jewel of my Soul, Crown of my Creation.

Sure they are.  That's why you have the highest post count besides Goose (as of this posting).  Some things don't change.  You still make a Big Thing out of not showing your face, and you're still going to be a giant postwhore.  Just accept it.  :P
