I want to see it, but I've heard nothing but mixed reviews. Modern Speilberg doesn't impress me, so I wouldn't be surprised if I hated it too.

There was just nothing new to present within the film. Nothing I havent seen before, and/or done better.
I wanted to like it, and it fell through.

Stand By Me or E.T. meets Cloverfield.

The kids can make you laugh at times but once everything is revealed in the film,
I just found myself waiting for it to be over.
and I felt no real replay value from the film.

The monster did look decent though. That is all.

Speilberg's just a producer, one of many, meaning he had jack shit to actually do with it other than allow them to slap his name on it for a cut of the profits.  JJ Abrams wrote and directed it.

i feel like he must've called speilberg numerous times during the project though. a lot of the direction and story practically screams his name.

To be perfectly honest, I've always thought that about JJ Abrams style as a whole, and given that Spielberg is slowing down his output in his later years (or just putting out crap), I don't find that a bad thing at all.

I've been watching Benny Chan's Shaolin, which has absolutely incredible performances by Nicholas Tse and Andy Lau, not to mention stunning action from Wu Jing, Yanneng, Jackie Chan & Xing Xing.  It's nice to see a Chinese martial arts film actually put as much effort into the storyline and flow instead of just the martial arts.
