So it sounds like most people here are having some seriously shitty stuff happen. It's odd, the last month and a half has been one thing after another, of varying degrees of "That really sucks" and "I have no idea how to handle this".

Anyone else finding themselves somewhat numb because of it? Like you get to a point and something overloads. I feel like some day soon I am going to snap on someone over the stupidest little thing, and they will be left wondering what my damage is, because there is no way having my bread squished by a cashier is ACTUALLY worth the reaction of stabbing someone in the eye.

Getting numb to it and overloading because of it are two completely different things.  You blow your top when you're repressing all the little things until they boil over.  If you're numb to it, the bad shit just becomes part of daily life and you don't even notice it.

On that point, yeah, I've definitely become numb to some things.  I've gone through so much terrible shit involving my son over his seven years of life that when something bad happens involving him, it doesn't even phase me, I just deal with it.

Case in point, last week we got a call from his school during the day that he went missing.  According to the recess supervisor, he ran off when the bell rang, and he couldn't be found afterwards.  My wife went hysterical, police were called, we all start combing the area.  I know he's lost, because he reportedly ran off completely in the opposite direction of home, and I drive him to school every day.  After about 20 minutes of this, I get a call to come back, they have him at school.  Turns out he was in his class the whole time, and no one actually checked there.  It was some other kid that he was playing with that ran off, and that kid only lives a block away from the school and was also accounted for.

The point of that story is that during all that, none of it phased me.  I never panicked, I never went nuts, never got worried, I just did what I needed to do to best find him.  The whole situation seemed odd, because he's not a runner, and desperately wants to be near an authority figure at all times.  Being lost and alone, I used what I knew of his behaviour patterns to find places to check.  I was still relieved when he was found safe and sound, but at the same time I never actually got that worked up in the first place.  This was just another checklist in the neverending shitshow that this poor kid's life has been.  It doesn't really phase me anymore when something involving him goes wrong, its just easier to figure out how to fix it.

Make sense, yes. I just suppose I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop, and start to feel more. My mother is dying of cancer, my family friend who was my second dad since I was three committed suicide, the same day they took my murdered uncle off of life support.

And it is all stressful, but I am not anywhere close to the wreck I expected to be. I was more depressed when my cat passed suddenly than I was when I found out my second dad committed suicide. Not that I wasn't upset, but it passed by in a day or two and then I'm just numb again.

Guess that's better, I can carry on and be an adult and such. Woo life!

I feel that. My dad's currently dying. Cancer for the last several years leading to intense chemo leading to some heart attacks and strokes.
He's not hospitalized, but at home. They say he could go any day in his sleep. Needless to say I'm numb and frazzled all at once. My mom is doing her best to take care of him, but I know she's slowly losing it.

And all while this is going on I'm dealing with a sick cat who everyone's telling me to put down, but still has plenty of life in her.
They're saying I care more about the cat than myself. Heck, it's one of the things that led to my ex being my ex-- but that was such a cluster fuck of a sitch to begin with it's probably better that way.

So yeah, i'm partly numb to some things and have severe anxiety over others... mostly just fear of the unknown and extreme loneliness.

Hell of a way to ride out my 30s...

Don't let anyone tell you to put your cat down if the cat is happy, I say. People tend to not understand they can be family. I tend to put my cats and my friends prior to myself, as well.

I agree with what you say about the extreme anxiety on one side of the coin and the numbness on the other. I have always had some issues with anxiety, but it got way worse when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. It flares up at the oddest times, too. Like, today I took her out for her birthday and my parents anniversary, first time we've taken her out in months because she can barely walk and has zero immune system. But I was okay. Stressed a bit, but no freak out.

Driving home from work? SOMEONE IS FOLLOWING ME DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK GET IN THE HOUSE! FREAK OUT! AHH!

Hooray for being anxious in your 30's, I'm there too. We'll all have panic attacks together. I'll buy stock in paper sandwich bags.

I am considering how I could make this. Maybe just a Sharpie for the logo. Let's do some bubble wrap too. A PI In Case of Anxiety kit, if you will.

For the last few years I've actually been really happy with my life, so I can't ever really complain about anything.  I know I keep saying sorry that you guys keep going through hell, but goddamn.  Now I'm actually sorry!

Not that I should speak with any authority on the matter, I think the numbness is mostly acquirred through age.  Any time I have a conversation with my sharp as tack 91-year old grandmother, we usually agree that life and the world is a bunch of horseshit.  So if you're able to let some of it slide off of you without losing your mind, I think you're all doing a pretty job of keeping your shit together.

Much love to you fine folks.
I assume I need no introduction.

Nah, no reason to feel sorry for being happy. I am glad you are!

Warning: This topic... blah blah blah. Yeah, thats why Im here and not on FB PI.

One cousin with whichever kind of leukemia is the super aggressive one. Her sister now has breast cancer. (Yes, they are both currently bald and rocking it) And then the cousin witb breast cancer? Her daughter has it and just had her second surgery this morning. AND while all this was going on, my precious little cousin Christopher (5 year old) nearly lost his life to necrotic fasciitis in his leg. (Possibly from the flu because he had no wounds) At least Alex is healthy... *knocks on wood*

Yeah, we’re holding up mostly okay. Tks.

How’s Phoenix doing in school? I think about everyone’s kiddos a lot these days.  :)

Could be better.  His ADHD (and possibly PTSD) are giving him a lot of anger issues, every day there's usually been one bad interaction that I end up hearing about.  He isn't learning properly, he's 7 and can't read for shit, depsite both my and my teachers best efforts.  We're playing with his medications with his psychiatrist to find something that'll allow him to keep his anger in check long enough to actually learn something in school.  Right now attempting to get him to sound out the words in one sentence takes about 20 minutes of screaming and crying.
